Summary is an annotation of a book, a document (final thesis, diploma paper, etc.), an article, another source or part thereof, a shortened layout of the essence of the project. The author presents the author in several sentences; the essence of the subject is described; purpose of the work; the target audience for which the work is intended; author’s views and basic ideas; author’s findings, results and suggested solutions (recommendations) to solve the problem. It gives the reader a quick overview and informative access to the content of the course paper and to understand what is written about it.

A brief summary of the final thesis is available in English and foreign (English, German or French). The summaries contain the following information about the work: title of the thesis, objective, research, methodology, research results, keywords . Scope of the summary is 600 characters in each language.

The summary introduces the problem, topicality, theory and research results, without any diagrams.

The most important feature of the summary is laconicism. It is also necessary to keep in mind the essential requirement: the summary must express the content of the document as accurately as possible. The article summary usually consists of 10 – 15 sentences, the books can be a little more.

The summary must objectively reflect the whole work, respond to the set goal and objectives. It must not contain any new or additional information that is not available at work. The summary does not include job evaluations, but the work itself is briefly presented. The summary does not need to convey the whole introduction, results or conclusions. If a study has been performed, information on the test contingent (age, gender, other relevant features of the study) should be provided.

The ability to make a summary of readable text becomes more and more necessary. The amount of information is growing, so it’s always important to value what’s important and valuable, from what’s accidental and irrelevant. Inability to perform this distinctive work easily, quickly, without much effort, becomes helpless in the broad spectrum of words and thoughts of consumers.

The summary usually consists of the following parts: introductory part, work (research problem) and tasks and objectives, theoretical insights, results obtained and conclusions. The summary is usually written in 12 Times New Roman, 1.5 intervals.

It is not only what and what methods were researched in writing the abstracts, but the results of the research received were presented, the conclusions were written so that the reader, after reading them, understood the essence and meaning of the research and could, even without paying a foreign language, decide whether it was worth it. try to translate the entire article into English (results can be given in formulas, tables, graphs, pictures, etc. in the main text).

The summary starts with the description of the study paper according to the following scheme: student’s surname, initial name, title of the work, course area, name of the higher education institution, faculty and department, place, date, volume of work preparation.

The summary is usually written according to the following plan:

  • Research topic, problem, goal and tasks, hypothesis;
  • Conceptual / theoretical basis, basic concepts, authors;
  • Results of work;
  • Conclusions;
  • Areas of application of work results.
